This type of sets are seen in mid 19th century sample books of for instance Nuremberg factories. Bone sets are more common as wooden ones and do have more variations as well. The sets are also often referred to as "Barleycorn" sets, because of the general shape. However the sets where King and Queen lack a stem or de wooden sets are not often called "Barleycorn".
